Single-use sterile patient and equipment drapes have reduced the risk of infection and lint in the operating theatre.
At Defries we design theatre drapes in conjunction with hospital theatres to meet local Australian requirements for drape sizing, fabric, fenestrations and extra details like Velcro taping and clear plastic anaesthetic screens.
Patient Drapes
Our drape design encompasses the instructions for correct aseptic application, with markings and directions on the drape to assist ease of use.
Choice of fabric is important. At Defries we use 2 types of drape fabric:
Azure drapes use a viscose fabric with a polyethylene laminate, suitable for most types of surgery. These include the Azure minor procedure drapes.
Supreme drapes are made from a hydrophilic trilaminate fabric. They are specifically designed for high level performance, coupled with great absorbency from fabric reinforcement around the fenestration, fluid containment with in-built pouches, positioning tape and incise area. The Supreme range includes drape sheets, universal packs and specialty procedure drapes.
Both drape fabrics are conformable to patients’ shapes. Drape fabrics are low linting and have excellent barrier properties to prevent strikethrough of airborne and bloodborne bacteria, meeting ASTM Standards 1670 & 1671.
